Academic Challenge

Advisor: Gabby Greer-Jones
Description: Academic Challenge is sponsored by WEWS-TV 5 in Cleveland. Each school in the Greater Cleveland/Greater Akron area is encouraged to choose a team to compete against two other schools on a televised academic "Quiz Bowl." Additional Quiz Bowl competitions are held regionally.
Meeting Time: Every Friday at 3:00 p.m.

American Sign Language Club

Advisor: Amy Graham
Description: Promotes Deaf Awareness and connects Beachwood High School students with the Cleveland/Greater Cleveland Deaf Community. Offers opportunities to enhance signing skills, peer tutoring, and community service within the Deaf Community.
Meeting Time: Monthly.

Amnesty International

Advisor: Gabby Greer-Jones
Description: Beachwood High School's chapter focuses on preserving human rights and ending global torture. Members meet regularly to investigate and discuss "hot spots."
Meeting Time: Every other Monday at 2:50 p.m.

Animation Club

Advisor: Marc Chalice
Description: A collaborative environment for exploring animation techniques, sharing knowledge, and working on projects.
Meeting Time: Weekly on Thursday from 3:30 - 4:15 p.m.

Art Club

The Beachcomber

Advisor: Josh Davis
Description: The Beachcomber is Beachwood High School’s student newspaper. Published six times a year, it is ranked among the top high school newspapers in Ohio, earning highest honors from the Northern Ohio Scholastic Press Association (NOSPA). The staff is composed of a diverse and competitive group of talented student leaders, writers and artists. Content includes news, features, editorials, arts and entertainment, and sports. Layout is completed using Adobe’s InDesign.
Meeting Time: Daily after school, varies by reporter.

Bison TV & Video Crew

Advisor: Marc Chalice
Description: Student videographers capture school events, enhancing skills in content creation, editing, and design motion graphics. Prerequisite: Intro to Video Production Semester class.
Meeting Time: Varies based on event schedules.

Council For Exceptional Children (CEC)

Advisors: Josh Davis and Nina Falkenstein
Description: CEC is a club in which regular education students work cooperatively with students with special needs. Historically, the club’s focus was to prepare interested regular education students for the field of special education. Our scope is continuing to broaden to include all students.
Meeting Time: Thursday afternoons monthly.  Individuals volunteer within classrooms according to their schedule.

Drama Club

Advisors: JJ Luster  and Topher Helm
Description: The Drama Club includes all students involved in the production of plays, including acting, directing, stage crew and makeup. The Drama Guild produces two major plays each year, one in the spring and one in the fall. Membership in the Drama Guild is open to all students.
Meeting Time: Daily rehearsals 4 - 5 weeks before each performance.

Ecology Club

Advisors: Kathryn Falkenberg   
Description: The Ecology Club is dedicated to raising student awareness of ecological and environmental issues. Club members participate in hikes, retreats and campouts. They also participate in local environmental activities with Beachwood elementary schools, Sierra Club, Earth Day Coalition, Shaker Lakes Nature Center and other organizations. The Club holds occasional fundraisers to support worthy causes and runs a paper recycling project at the high school.
Meeting Time: Every Monday

Fantasy Football Club

Advisor: Joe Petraiuolo
Description: Members manage virtual teams in a Point Per Reception (PPR) league format, discussing strategies and trades.
Meeting Time: Wednesdays as needed during the NFL season.

Gender & Sexualities Alliances

Advisor: Topher Helm
Description: Gender & Sexualities Alliances is a student-run organizations that aims to unite LGBTQ+ and allied youth by building community and organizing around issues impacting them in their schools and communities. Our hope is to provide a safe space for all.
Meeting Time: Every other Monday and Student Activity Wednesdays

Hiking Club

Advisor: Jamie Lader
Description: Organizes local hikes to promote outdoor activity and appreciation.
Meeting Time: Hikes are typically once or twice per quarter.

Introspect

Advisor: Evan Luzar 
Description: Introspect is a literary publication edited and prepared by students. Submissions include poetry, short stories, essays, artwork and photography from students of all grade levels.
Meeting Time: After school, as scheduled.

Israeli Culture Club

Advisor: Irit Oberster 
Description: The Israeli Culture Club is open to all students who are interested in celebrating and exploring Israeli culture, including its history, traditions, and holidays. We focus on educating and celebrating the diverse aspects that make Israel unique.
Meeting Time: 2:57 - 3:30 p.m., twice a month 

Junior Council On World Affairs (JCWA)

Advisor: Dominic Velotta
Description: JCWA is open to all students who are interested in researching world affairs and debating vital current issues and policies. Members compete against other schools in a simulated United Nations format. They are judged on how accurately and fully they represent the needs of their assigned countries and their ability to work with representatives of other countries to present solutions. BHS’s JCWA team consistently wins top awards of best delegate and delegation at national programs.
Meeting Time: Monday and Wednesday from 7:00 - 8:30 

Leadership Conference

Advisor: Craig Alexander
Description: The annual Leadership Conference is designed to help students become better leaders through cooperative learning, character-building activities, and advice from teachers and outside keynote speakers. Students representing every school club and team participate in the three-day program. The conference is organized by a steering committee composed of Beachwood High School students.
Meeting Time: Conference in the fall and periodic meeting throughout the school year

Library Club

Advisor: Angela Maxwell     
Description: Members plan library-related activities throughout the school year. These include speakers, discussion groups, reading to elementary students, collecting books for disadvantaged children, and investigating special libraries. Library Club members maintain the archives for Beachwood High School. They also promote the services offered by the library. The club’s Executive Board acts as an Advisory Council for the library staff.
Meeting Time: Various dates throughout the year, typically Thursdays after school.

MAC Scholars Advisory

Advisor: Gabby Greer-Jones 
Description: A program designed to support and encourage high academic achievement and engagement in our African-American students. It is our objective to cultivate a growing group of high achieving African-American males and females. This group will make an important difference in the school community by serving as peer mentors and role models.
Meeting Time: Every Wednesday  at 3:35 p.m.

Math Club

Meeting Time: Every Monday at 2:55 p.m. (before American Math Competitions; every other Monday at 2:55 p.m. (after American Math Competitions)

National Honor Society

Advisor: Dr. Casey Mathhews 
Description: The National Honor Society recognizes and honors those students who have achieved in the areas of scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Members are selected by a faculty committee from the juniors and seniors who apply and qualify for membership. 
Meeting Time: Quarterly 

The Oculus

Advisors: Craig Alexander and Julie Felder
Description: The Oculus is the Beachwood High School yearbook, published annually. Students learn layout and desktop publishing techniques using Macintosh computers. The staff includes writers, editors, photographers, ad designers and a business manager. The staff also produces a CD that includes still photography, audio and video to accompany the hard-cover volume.
Meeting Time: Various dates that are scheduled by students when they are available. 

Pre-Med Club

Advisor: Linda LoGalbo
Description: The Pre-Med Club is a club for aspiring medical professionals. The club meets monthly with invited guest speakers from the medical professional. Students learn about what it takes to become a health care provider.  In additions, the club's goal is provide students with exposure to the various medical professional fields. The club also engages in service learning by volunteering at MedWish International and local hospitals.

Red Cross Club

Advisor: Grace Perryman 
Description: The Red Cross Club will support the efforts of the Red Cross by learning, practicing, and exemplifying humanitarian values through mission related service projects. Service projects will focus on the following areas: Health & Safety, Emergency Preparedness, Disaster Relief, Biomedical Services (Blood Drives)
Meeting Time: Meetings take place every other week during academy/advisory. Additional meetings may be scheduled as needed.

Robotics Team

Advisor: John Keyerleber 
Description: The FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition, founded by insulin pump inventor Dean Kamen and sponsored in part by NASA, is a national program where students are provided with materials and given six weeks to program and create a robot. These robots then compete in teams on playing fields. Approximately 20,000 students from 750 teams participate in the nationwide program. Opportunities for interested students lie in engineering, programming, designing, applied physics, fundraising, public relations and leadership.
Meeting Time: During the season (January to March): Monday to Thursday evenings, 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and weekends noon to 5:00 p.m.; off-season Thursday evenings 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Science Olympiad

Advisor: Rakhee Banerjee 
Description: Science Olympiad is a national organization that celebrates and recognizes outstanding achievement in the areas of science and technology. Tournaments are held at district, county, state and national levels with an emphasis on teamwork and a commitment to excellence.
Meeting Time: Mondays and Thursdays from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.

Senior Search

Advisor: Lisa Morgan 
Description: Senior Search, an optional program, provides qualified seniors with the opportunity to explore individual interests and careers off-campus in a school-community partnership. It encourages BHS seniors to examine and reflect on the world outside of high school so that they are better prepared to make decisions about personal goals. Senior Search projects include shadowing a professional, creating a performance or work of art, researching a specific field, or assisting a social service agency.

Speech and Debate Team

Advisor: Nicole Majercak
Description: The Debate Team competes in weekly regional competitions from November through February. Students practice for the various competition events several afternoons each week with the coaching of their advisor.
Meeting Time: Every Tuesday and Thursday 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Stock Market Club 

Advisor: John Kaminski 
Description: In the Stock Market Club, students learn how to buy, sell and trade stocks by starting with a virtual cash account of $100,000. The goal is to earn as much profit as possible while competing against other schools.
Meeting Time: Every other Wednesday at 3:35 p.m.

Student Council

Advisors:

Description: Student Council promotes and organizes student activities within the school including dances, the White and Gold Talent Show, student elections, Harvest for Hunger, Thanksgiving food drive, school assemblies and Spirit Week.
Meeting Time: Grade-level meetings during activity period, along with multiple other school-wide meetings each month, depending on members' roles.

Women in STEM

Advisors: Lisa Bugenske 
Description: Women in STEM is a group that supports and engages women interested in STEM fields.  We do a variety of things including projects, discussions, outreach, and support.
Meeting  Time: Every other Tuesday for second quarter
